Our story begins with the wisdom of Ayurveda — which sees the wellbeing of the individual, the community, and the earth as one — and with a commitment to organic, ethical, and healing craft.
Starting out as The Sacred Threads Co we have been an advocate for organic clothing made with integrity and sustainability for over six years, supplying cotton T-shirts, sweats, and yoga wear to the wellness community. Healing Textiles is the next step: a range of yoga rugs, pillows, and blocks made using Ayurvastra — hand-spun, hand-loomed textiles dyed with organic medicinal plants and herbs. We imagined practising on a rug so imbued with mantra and healing herbs that it supports wellness at a cellular level. Our partners begin with organic cotton from small local farmers. The raw cotton is formed into hanks and dipped in Kasyam — 22 Ayurvedic medicinal herbs — while the Gayatri Mantra is chanted over the baths. We have witnessed this in person; these are true practitioners, following ancient prescriptions and practices. The hanks are then dyed in herbal dye baths, each dye offering its own benefits, dried in the sun, and delivered to weavers who have learned their craft from previous generations. Every piece is woven on handlooms, without electricity, one at a time. Production happens within generational weaving communities, and we look to their expertise to guide how we work. The practice of Ayurvastra that produces these textiles has been handed down through a select lineage of Ayurvedic masters, dyers, and weavers. What we offer is authentic. Not all textiles are made equal. Ours are made to support future generations by sustaining this ancient wisdom. Ayurvastra is the ancient Indian tradition of dyeing textiles with medicinal herbs so that the cloth itself supports healing, balance, and wellbeing.

Our textiles start with organic cotton, which is formed into hanks and treated with Kasyam (22 Ayurvedic herbs) and the Gayatri Mantra. The threads are then dyed in baths of botanical plant dyes — turmeric, indigo, sappanwood, manjistha, and others — each chosen for colour and therapeutic quality. We use no synthetic dyes or chemical mordants where possible. The dyed threads are triple-washed with fresh water and soapnut, air-dried in the shade, and woven by hand on traditional looms in small batches. This slow, intentional process preserves the breathability, softness, and medicinal integrity of the cloth and supports the communities who make it.

Most products you buy online already exist before you order them. They were made in anticipation of demand, stored in warehouses, and shipped when you clicked. If they don't sell, they are discounted, destroyed, and often landfilled.
We do it differently.
Nothing is made until it is ordered. Every textile is woven and dyed in response to a real person wanting it. That means no overproduction, no waste, no surplus sitting in a warehouse somewhere.
We place our orders with our weavers and dyers in India four times a year. This rhythm matters. It gives Shakeel and his family consistent, predictable work throughout the year — not an unpredictable trickle of single orders. It also means every collection is shipped together, reducing the environmental cost of freight.
The 6–8 week wait is real. But so is what you receive at the end of it — something made for you, by hand, by artisans using herbs & plants.
