Ayurvastra Organic Cotton Yoga Mats

Our Ayurvastra yoga rugs are handwoven from organic cotton and dyed with traditional medicinal plant dyes. Each rug has a natural latex backing for grip, is sweat- and slip-resistant, and is made without chemicals or toxins. Available in a range of plant-dyed colours — each with its own Ayurvedic benefits — and in our special Chakra design. Perfect for yoga, meditation, and daily ritual.

Skin-Safe by Design

Your skin is your largest organ, and in yoga it spends a long time in close contact with the surface beneath you. Most mats are made with synthetic foams, plastics and chemical finishes. An Ayurvastra rug is the opposite. Every thread is dyed with organic, plant-based medicinal dyes before it is woven — so the herbal properties live throughout the cloth, not as a coating on top. No synthetic dyes, no chemical fixatives, no toxins. Just organic cotton and plants, against your skin.

Grip, Use & Care

Will it grip? Each rug has a natural latex backing that holds firm on hard floors and studio surfaces, and the woven cotton becomes more sweat- and slip-resistant as you move.

Caring for it. Air it after practice and spot-clean as needed. The plant dyes are fixed deep in the fibre, so colours stay rich with simple care.

Why made-to-order? Each rug is hand-dyed and handwoven by a weaving family we know personally — no warehouse, no waste. When our (small) inventory runs out we include any orders in our routine ‘collective order’, which means you are never buying a mass-produced mat; you’re commissioning a hand-dyed, hand-woven textile, just for you.

How they are made

How they are made

All our products are made by hand in small batches. Organic cotton is dyed using the Ayurvastra process — infused with Kashayam (22 Ayurvedic herbs) and botanical dyes — then handwoven on traditional looms.

Because the fibres are dyed before weaving, colour is even and long-lasting; slight variations between batches are part of the craft. To learn more about the tradition and benefits, visit our Ayurvastra page.
